Vacation Like a Local: A Pet-Friendly Guide to Anna Maria Island

At AMI Locals, we believe the best vacations should feel like living the island lifestyle, preferably with your four legged friend by your side. From spacious vacation homes with private pools to outdoor restaurants and local parks, Anna Maria Island makes it easy to enjoy a Florida Gulf Coast getaway with your dog.

Why Anna Maria Island is a Great Destination for Pet Owners

Anna Maria Island’s walkable communities, quiet residential streets, and year-round sunshine create plenty of opportunities to explore with your pup. While dogs are not permitted on the island’s Gulf beaches, pet owners can still enjoy waterfront parks, outdoor dining, and nearby dog-friendly shoreline areas. The free island trolley also makes it easy for the humans in your group to reach local beaches, restaurants, and shops without moving the car. Before heading out with your dog, check posted rules, carry water, and keep a leash handy.

Local Favorite Dog-Friendly Spots on Anna Maria Island

For off-leash play, visit Holmes Beach Dog Park, a fenced community park with separate spaces for large and small dogs. Leashed dogs can also explore designated trails at Robinson Preserve.

For sand and shallow water, head across the bridge to Palma Sola Causeway, the closest dog-friendly shoreline area. Remember that dogs are not allowed on Cortez Beach, Coquina Beach, Manatee Public Beach, or other Anna Maria Island Gulf beaches.

Pet-Friendly Restaurants Locals Love

Several island restaurants welcome leashed dogs at designated outdoor tables. Ginny’s & Jane E’s is a colorful local favorite for breakfast, coffee, and casual lunches. The Waterfront Restaurant serves seafood and elevated coastal dishes near the bay, while Poppo’s Taqueria is ideal for fresh, casual Mexican fare.

Outdoor pet policies and seating availability can change, so call ahead before visiting.
